Chapter 1 Pt. 9

She was a gazelle humanoid, draped in dusty rags. She shuffled past the gate, clearly trying to avoid attracting attention. She carried muddy covered sheets in her brown furred hands. That fur covered her whole body except for her hooves and the small gray horns on her head. Her snout was short and splotched with white fur and black speckles.

The woman could hear the commotion at the gate, which was evident by her thin large ears drooping down to her shoulders. Her ears had one thin black stripe going down the middle of them. But the one thing Michiko would never be able to describe to another soul, was the look in her amber eyes. The look of fear, anxiety, loneliness. It was so discreet, but anyone with a good eye could see it just beneath that amber sea of dred and sorrow.

“Fine, my witness is her.” Michiko pointed to the meek looking gazelle. “Her? What kind of witness is that?” The commander chuckled. “What is your name?” Michiko shouted before the woman could scamper away. The woman halted her frantic walking, and slowly turned her head. Her hand shook as she pointed to herself. “Yes you, you fit the description my servant described.

“M-my name? it’s… uh… well, my name is Keysha.” She stammered, fumbling over her words, trying desperately to form an accurate sentence. “Come here.” Michiko ordered, gesturing the meek gazelle over. Keysha, still carrying the dirty sheets, approached with great caution.

Keysha stood there awkwardly for a moment. She had a look on her face as if she was trying to resist the urge to flee.  “That is your witness?”  The commander chuckled. “What a disgusting looking mole.”He cackled. “I’m not a mole sir. I-I am a Rimdarian, we are gazelle like sir. “Keysha corrected him, she shifted awkwardly back and forth. “You dare correct a commander of the tenth sage?” He hissed, taking a step closer to the gate.
